Getting there

Whether you're travelling interstate or from overseas, Victoria has a multitude of transport options to get you here - by air, bus, train, car or boat.

By Air

Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport (IATA: MEL, ICAO: YMML), colloquially known as Tullamarine Airport, is the primary airport serving the city of Melbourne, and the second busiest airport in Australia. It is located 23 kilometres (14 miles) north of the city centre, adjacent to the suburb of Tullamarine and operates without any curfew 24/7.

The airport features direct flights to 33 domestic destinations and to destinations in the Pacific, Europe, Asia, North America and South America.

Avalon Airport (IATA: AVV, ICAO: YMAV) is located in Avalon, Victoria 50 kilometres (30 mi) south-west of the state capital Melbourne and 15 km (9 mi) north-east of the city of Geelong.  Avalon is currently served by passenger airline Jetstar Airways, which began domestic flights in 2004. AirAsia  direct flights between Avalon Airport and Kuala Lumpur are currently suspended due to the impact of Covid.

From Airport to Sandringham

Cost effective - catch the SkyBus (Peninsula Express) from Melbourne Airport to Southland Shopping Centre and then a local bus to Sandringham Railway Station. The yacht club is a short taxi ride from there or a 10 min walk. Alternatively (or if arriving at Avalon Airport) catch the SkyBus to Melbourne City (Southern Cross Railway Station) and then the local train to Sandringham Railway Station (30 minutes journey time, 10 minutes frequency in peak hours and 20 minutes off peak).

Buy Skybus tickets on-line at https://www.skybus.com.au/ or at Melbourne Airport.

Timetable for the Sandringham Train Line can be found here: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/timetables/linemain/12

You will need a "Myki" card to use the train system and suburban bus network. These can be purchased at hundreds of retail outlets and most railway stations across metropolitan and regional Victoria, including all 7-Eleven stores.
